I love the optimism and hope that a new year brings; it’s a chance to re-set and get excited about new dreams. A few years ago, I never dreamed we’d actually be doing this – living out of a camper trailer, seeing so many amazing places in our wonderful country. A couple of years of dreaming and gradually putting pieces into place, and here we are! For a few months now, our Aussie adventure has been nourishing our little family, as well as our sense…Continue Reading “Food, ferries and finding your inner child”

Wander-lost

I’ve attempted this blog entry more than a few times. Having covered 4 states in just over 3 weeks,  I found myself getting lost in all the highlights – memories and places getting mixed up with one another like the endings of my favourite childhood movies. But the challenge really started once I finally got things straight in my mind. How could I possibly mention just a few of the amazing places we’d seen? How would I choose between the trillions of photos? Luckily I’ve…Continue Reading “Wander-lost”

Going with the ebb… and flow

After camping for a while, you find yourself in sync with the light. While our home state friends and family are busy getting extra Z’s, we’re stirring at 4:50am as first light emerges over the coast.  This would normally be an early (and rude) start for a New South Welshman used to daylight saving, but I’ve become accustomed to rising with the birds. I’ve also discovered its many advantages. These include: first dibs on the camp shower block, fabulous sunrises, a peaceful cup of tea,…Continue Reading “Going with the ebb… and flow”

Are we there (zen) yet?

Sometimes, I love the feeling of being a little secluded. A few days of relative solitude does wonders for my soul. A borderline introvert, I also tend to crave it after a bit of crazy, and this is exactly what we got at Smalley’s Beach in Cape Hillsborough. We’d come from Airlie Beach where the weather was brilliant, the snorkeling fun, and the turquoise waters awe inspiring. I found myself mildly nostalgic as we pulled in. I’d last visited Airlie as a backpacker nearly 20…Continue Reading “Are we there (zen) yet?”

Stretching time

Our time on the road is speeding by.  In just 2 weeks, we’ve passed through vast stretches of barren countryside, weathered epic thunderstorms, trekked luscious bushland in the middle of drought-stricken Queensland, and adored infinite coastal views. Looking back, the start of our trip feels so long ago. We’re currently nestled in Yeppoon on the Central Queensland Coast, and what a sweet little surprise it’s been. The centrepiece is a large ‘Lagoon’ complete with infinity pool, and an intricate water play park known as ‘Kraken’,…Continue Reading “Stretching time”

Welcome to Trailer and Zen

I mulled for weeks over the title for this blog. As one lukewarm idea followed another (and another), it was time to entreat (Mr M) over a glass of wine one evening. “Come on love, how about you help me brainstorm a title for my blog? I’m really stuck!”. I had little expectation – he was a scientist, after all. But as a ‘marketing type’ used to being surrounded by creative people, I was a little desperate for someone to ‘bounce off’. I got the…Continue Reading “Welcome to Trailer and Zen”
